Certified Cancer Journey Coach

Meet Donell Hill (“Donnie”) — The Life Maximizer. Donnie believes that people are here on this Earth to thrive and live the best life possible, but sometimes difficult life situations — such as cancer — make that hard to do. He learned first-hand when his nonsmoker mom was diagnosed with Stage 1B Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in 2012.

Now, he is changing the lives of people who have been touched by cancer. Donnie has retained lessons he’s learned from his many life experiences, including: with his mom; his education from Stanford University; work as a Certified Cancer Journey Coach; a Peer Health Educator; a NASM Certified Personal Trainer; a professional actor; and a Training Manager for a presentations skills training company. Combining these lessons and skills, he now speaks to groups, and leads dynamic, educational, and transformative workshops that invite and inspire patients and their families to create new lives and rediscover hope.

An interview with Donnie:

What inspires you to get up in the morning? For me, there is nothing more exciting and satisfying than watching people take back control of their life. Despite their cancer diagnosis or their loved one’s diagnosis, people have an opportunity to use this difficult life situation as a catalyst to create a new, soulful life — one that is filled with more love, more joy or more meaning. In the moments that my clients get it, they dare to hope again, and I take one more step towards my mission of creating peace and Heaven on Earth.

What are you scared of? I’m scared that I won’t get to share my knowledge, experiences, and resources with the people I’m meant to help before it is my time to leave this world.

People often underestimate the power of . . . (self) acknowledgement. You matter.

I am in my power when . . . I acknowledge all aspects of my humanity and my complexity — “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

If you could have one super power, what would you choose? Teleportation! (It would be a lot easier to go back home to see my family or deliver talks around the world if I could just snap my fingers and “Poof!” I’m there! (Apple . . . Google . . . you have a new project to work on!)

Anna BorzeszkowskaAnna Borzeszkowska
CPCC; Certified Cancer Journey Coach; Certified Mindfulness MBSR Teacher; Caregiver

I wanted to be a doctor, but I became a lawyer. I’ve been working for big corporations for 22+ years. During that time I’ve held various positions, starting in finance and moving to Human Resources. My current role is HR Director for EMEIA (Europe, Middle East, India & Africa). I am passionate about people and business. Working in a multicultural environment, supporting business, helping people to develop, grow, and succeed inspires me very much.

I have recently developed an Oncology Foundation, and I have plans for further actions and initiatives supporting cancer patients and caregivers. In my free time I travel a lot, ride a bike, run, spend time with my family and friends.

My motto is: You don’t know how far you can go unless you run. So . . . just run.

An interview with Anna:

What inspires you to get up in the morning? I wake up in the morning with acceptance for what the new day will bring. There is always something new and exciting for me. New people, new things to do, new adventure, new learning opportunities. I wake up in the morning with curiosity, which inspires me the most.

What are you scared of? I am most scared of living without passion and without my Family.

People often underestimate the power of . . . their own potential. I strongly believe that everyone has something unique and special. Sometimes we are too scared to discover and develop that.

I am in my power when . . . I live and work with passion: working with people, caring about others, learning new things, creating and executing new plans. Living in NOW and HERE gives me a lot of power and allows me to be where I need to be.

If you could have one super power, what would you choose? I would run ultra-marathons and I would climb Mount Everest.

The Certified Cancer Coach Training Program felt like a fleece-lined room that encapsulated me with warmth, attention, and love. It was a growth experience that didn’t involve pain; was a welcoming experience that taught me none of us is alone, no matter who or where we are in life; and was a learning experience unlike a typical classroom because I learned to articulate from my heart rather than my mind.

Keri and Shariann are the epitome of collaboration. Their combined strengths and values are the perfect formula for welcoming and holding their students delicately – in a way they’ve never been held before. This is all about my dream to console and comfort patients.

~ N. Hoffer

This is a very experiential program that invites and supports you to dig deep into your own inherent strengths and power. By doing so, you not only facilitate change in others, but you yourself are changed for the better.

I developed a greater sense of what it means to be a coach and what coaching feels like from the inside-out and outside-in. I made some truly powerful connections with others as we learned and grew together. It has been life-changing.

Coaching is continuing to grow in popularity and becoming more the chosen path towards lasting change. I am so glad the tools of coaching have become adapted for those going through a cancer diagnosis. Shariann and Keri each embody such a breadth and depth of wisdom and compassion! I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a student and graduate of this incredible program – thank you for bringing it into the world!

The training to become a cancer coach through The Cancer Journey was much deeper and introspective than I could have imagined. My class came together as strangers from up and down the Mid-Atlantic states. Over the months of weekly teleseminars and practice sessions we got to know each other, and by our final weekend together we were like a family. Throughout the course we were challenged to dig deep into our souls and share, cry, and grow.

Now, as coaches, we are better prepared to hold our clients as they work through their own feelings. I am humbled by the work of a cancer coach, and I feel blessed that my trainers, mentors, and friends are Shariann and Keri. They are remarkable women who have put together a thorough, meaningful, and important program with a mission to educate coaches and send them out into their communities to help the many cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers move through their own cancer journey.

~ J. Venturini, Survivor

I believe that this program is life changing. There is constant opportunity to use the skills and that makes this a living curriculum. These materials are not just for “those other people.” It includes all of us on this life journey – no matter where we are at any given time.

Shariann and Keri are the most generous and compassionate people I know. They not only have the coaching skills mastered, they are living examples and role models – makes one inspired to do this work. I am so grateful to have become certified and to have begun my coaching practice.

~ L. Geary

I have been to A LOT of trainings, workshops, courses over my many years as a teacher/trainer/coach, and I am very judgmental about these experiences – I hold a high bar of expectation. Shariann and Keri are among the best I have experienced! They teach valuable content/skills, tools, and strategies while helping us integrate everything personally/emotionally. The learning is not just cognitive/intellectual – they deepen our learning by having us experience the tools in a personal way. I found the training to be very personally powerful and meaningful, and at the same time I learned new coaching tools & concepts that I can use professionally.

~ L.A. Cimperman

Going through the training program allowed me to awaken to my “heart’s work.” As a professional coach, I felt that the CCCTP program added a new level of depth, empathy, and purpose to my work.

Not only will this program transform the lives of those that you serve, but it will also open yourself up to living from a place of purpose, awareness and passion.

Stepping into Gratitude

Gratitude is a very powerful tool when panic starts to come into your life. Gratitude can start shifting you into a more grounded place immediately. Gratitude can shift you to a heart place.

“Step Into Gratitude” TIP:

When you start to notice that Panic is seeping in, STOP.  Take 3 deep breaths.  Get in touch with what you are feeling at that very moment.  Allow yourself to feel them. Are you scared, angry, frustrated, and/or worried? No matter what it is, feel it.

Then, begin to open up to what there is to be grateful for in this moment. If you can, set a timer for 2 minutes and for that entire time, just write out or say out-loud everything that comes to your mind to be grateful for.

As an example say:

  • I am grateful for my hands that allow me to type here.
  • I am grateful for my kitchen table where we have eaten so many delicious meals and had wonderful conversations
  • I am grateful for being a mom and having 2 loving children
  • I am grateful that I am alive to be part of the good times and the bad times
  • I am grateful for my strong body that takes a licking and keeps on ticking
  • I am grateful for my dog, Sookie, who loves me unconditionally

There is no wrong way of doing this. You’ll begin to feel the shift, right away. Allow yourself to swim in the waters of Gratitude.

This tool is used with Cancer Coaching clients and it shifts them to a more productive attitude. It’s one of the many tools in our signature program Panic to Powerful™.

Actions of Self Loving that Help You Heal

Often in self-loving, it is not always our nature to self-nurture.  But through learning and understanding these different actions of self-loving and using them in your daily life, you can shift and heal.

One Action of Self Loving is “Being Trustworthy.”

This means that you keep your promise to yourself.  If you tell yourself that you will engage in 10 minutes of walking each day because it makes you feel good and helps your healing, then each day that comes along and you don’t follow-through, you are not being trustworthy to yourself.  You aren’t walking your talk and end up sabotaging yourself.

But by being true to your promises and following through, you are self-loving and healing through this daily action.
